| At long last, I've moved my blog over to the wordpress platform on my website. I've even added a feed to my Facebook profile! This means no more posts to my xanga, but I'll still be reading yours .

| Apparently Rock Band was supposed to be one of the world's greatest music revolutions, because all these two reviewers can complain about is how the game doesn't actually teach you how to play guitar, get real gigs, or find true happiness.
SFGate Slate
Since when have transferable skills and true happiness been the main criteria for reviewing video games? To me, those sound like factors in deciding a job offer, not a video game purchase. And as for transferable skills, the game does teach a huge portion of the skills necessary to play a four piece drum set, so complaining that the product doesn't also teach guitar skills is just being greedy.
My final comment is really for that San Francisco Chronicle writer. How awesome must a product be if you need to compare it to a concept as grandiose as true happiness? I wasn't aware that happiness was available for purchase in another product.

| My favorite artist, Olafur Eliasson, is opening his first major US exhibit!
A tribute:

Pictures to come as soon as I make it to the SFMOMA...

| Maybe I need to wake up earlier to come up with ideas.
During an early breakfast with a couple people this morning , I had a vacation revelation. We were talking about how to get from DC to New York, and I kept saying how enjoyable it was to take the train. That's when an old-fashioned idea came to me... the cross country train trip! I used to repeatedly watch the Journey of Natty Gann when I was younger, and that was how I always pictured train trips: gritty, Depression era things that would be good for an adventure. In the movie, Natty Gann goes on a 2,000 mile trip from Chicago to Washington state with nothing but her wolf/dog (another one of my future ideas - maybe I was brainwashed) and a teenage John Cusack. On my trip, there won't be a pet or budding actor, but I can definitely experience the Northwest and Chicago.
Amtrak has these great names for the routes:
Coast Starlight (San Francisco to Seattle) Empire Builder (Seattle to Chicago) Capitol Limited (Chicago to DC)
Much better than "Acela Express" or "Auto Train."
Travel time? 84 hours. Ticket cost? $519 for seats on the shorter legs and a room for the Empire Builder.
Making an "are you crazy?" face now? Well, I'm probably not going to submit anyone else to 84 hours in train cars, but part of the train ride is for sleeping, and part is for ride-by sightseeing, so not all of it is me just lying around reading and playing video games. And reading and video games are part of my typical vacation, anyway, so why not be traveling at the same time?
Given that I'm already doling out my vacation days and money this year, I probably won't be able to execute this plan until early next year. But, I'm already so excited about it that I can't resist a blog entry.
